Getting to Winnemia

Where are we?

Winnemia Campground is located Jimba Jimba station, on the banks of the Gascoyne River, 150km east of Carnarvon., and 36km west of the townsite of Gascoyne Junction.


Access is via the Kennedy Range Loop Road (Mardathuna Road), off the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road), Gascoyne River, Murchison, Western Australia 6705.

Vehicle Access

Winnemia is accessible by a mixture of gravel and bitumen roads. Although we recommend a 4WD, Winnemia is accessible by a 2WD for those comfortable driving on unsealed gravel roads.


We strongly advise visitors check seasonal road closures with the Shire of Upper Gascoyne prior to heading to Winnemia. Visit: https://www.uppergascoyne.wa.gov.au/roadreport/

Driving Instructions

From Carnarvon (from the BP Truckstop)

  • Head east on the North West Coastal Highway for 6km
  • Turn right onto the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road
  • Follow the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road for 131km
  • Turn left onto Mardathuna Road (signage says "Kennedy Range Loop Road"
  • Continue on Mardathuna Road for approximately 6km


From Gascoyne Junction

  • Head north-west on the Carnarvon-Mullewa Road towards Carnarvon (for approximately 30km)
  • Turn right onto Mardathuna Road (keep an eye out for "Kennedy Range Loop Road" signage)
  • Continue on Mardathuna Road for approximately 6km
